Our Story
The Journey to Overton
Our story as the owners of Overton began long before we acquired the business.
Brothers Matt and Josh Brocklehurst began working indirectly across the Vodafone estate in 2013. Starting with shopfitting projects throughout the UK, their work later took them to Vodafone’s headquarters in Newbury and to data centres at various locations around the country.
Working within these demanding, high-profile environments gave Matt and Josh invaluable experience. It taught them the importance of quality, reliability and delivering work correctly, often within live premises where disruption had to be carefully managed.
These opportunities provided the springboard to build their reputation and gradually accumulate the funds needed to pursue something bigger.
However, the journey was not without its challenges.
Like many people building a business from the ground up, Matt and Josh found themselves doing everything. They were regularly working 16-hour days, travelling across the country and personally managing every part of the operation—from surveying and quoting to carrying out the work, procuring materials and issuing invoices.
It was a valuable chapter in their careers, but it was not sustainable.
They realised that if they wanted to build a lasting business, they needed to move away from simply creating work for themselves and begin developing a company that could grow through its people, systems and long-term customer relationships.
That realisation started the search for an established local business to acquire—and they were not initially convinced that it even had to be an electrical company.
In fact, Matt and Josh seriously considered buying a local soft-play centre. It would have represented a complete change of direction, but the opportunity was explored and they came surprisingly close to taking the plunge.
Ultimately, it was not meant to be.
After approaching a friend for advice about funding the opportunity, they were told that the friend knew someone who was looking to sell an established electrical contracting business.
Why not? Electrical contracting was what they knew—and surely it would be easier than running a soft-play centre!
That business was Overton Electrical Services Ltd.
Several introductions and meetings followed, relationships were built and the wheels were set in motion. On 24 September 2019, Matt and Josh completed the acquisition of Overton through Brocklehurst Power Solutions Ltd.
The timing, as it turned out, could have been better.
Within months, the COVID-19 pandemic brought enormous uncertainty to businesses across the country. Having only recently taken ownership, Matt and Josh suddenly faced the challenge of guiding Overton through circumstances that nobody could have predicted.
Like many local businesses, Overton had to adapt, remain resilient and find a way through. The company successfully navigated the pandemic and emerged ready to concentrate on the next stage of its journey: sustainable growth.
Since the acquisition, Overton has nearly tripled its turnover and secured numerous long-term public-sector contracts. The business has continued to invest in its people, systems, accreditations and technical capabilities while expanding its electrical, fire and security services.
Today, Overton is thriving.
Compliance sits at the heart of everything we do. Whether we are delivering a major electrical project, maintaining essential fire and security systems or working within a sensitive public-sector environment, our focus remains the same: completing work safely, correctly and to the highest possible standard.
We are proud to have developed a reputation as a go-to electrical, fire and security contractor across the East Midlands. However, despite our growth, we remain committed to the principles that brought us this far—hard work, personal service, technical excellence and doing what we say we will do.
Our journey has taken us from nationwide shopfitting projects and 16-hour working days, through an unexpected conversation about a soft-play centre, to leading a growing and trusted multidisciplinary contractor.
And this is only the next chapter of the Overton story.
